by Jim Greer posted 02/18/2012 We're right around the corner from what should be a very exciting 2012 baseball season at Woodinville High School. The Falcons return most of the starters from last season's 13-5 squad, and the talented senior class looks to lead the team deeper into the KingCo tournament and beyond. The Falcons will first have to get through a tough Crown Division schedule that includes defending state champ Bothell, a talented Ballard squad, and the Inglemoor Vikings (who have had the Falcons' number in the last two KingCo tournaments). Over in the Crest Division, the race looks too close to call - each team features some top-notch talent, so depth and pitching will determine how they stack up at the end. The non-conference schedule will provide a good test for the Falcons as they host Monroe, Kentwood, Ferris, and Central Kitsap, while traveling to Yakima to face AC Davis.
It's been a busy off-season for the senior class, with two players committing to Pac-12 schools, three players committing to top-notch Juco programs, and others weighing multiple college options to continue their playing careers. Pitcher Marty Luckenbach represented the Northwest at last summer's Area Code Games, getting the opportunity to play with (and against) rising seniors from across the US, who were selected by MLB scouts. Eleven Falcon players participated in the Baseball Northwest Championship showcases for their graduating classes. And finally, several of this year's players helped Woodinville Baseball Club bring home the State Legion Baseball "A" and "AA" championships last summer.
The place to be this spring is Woodinville High School's baseball diamond, where great talent, tough opponents, and the best concession stand in the area combine for a great evening! |
